Where is Zef Brozi going?... Is prison threatening him?

Berisha takes revenge -Last night parliament discussed, under an accelerated procedure, Berisha’s proposal to dismiss Zef Brozi from all duties in the Constitutional Court, and, under an even faster procedure, dismissed him, replacing him with Mr. Avni Shehu -The parliamentary session for Zef Brozi’s dismissal was illegal; the number of deputies present was falsified by including Shkëlqim Cani, Gramoz Pashko and Arben Imami as well - With complete unanimity, with 73 votes in favor, including the votes of Pashko, Cani and Imami from home, the PD dismissed Zef Brozi. It dismissed him not only as President of the Court of Cassation but also as a judge. Apparently, the President of the Republic did not sleep yesterday at lunchtime. This was not because of the shocking news and images of these days’ floods. During this time he was busy drafting and sending to Parliament the Decree on the dismissal of Zef Brozi... With his stance toward Brozi, Berisha, on the one hand, aims to establish absolute control over the justice institutions and, on the other, to show his opponents what their fate may be. We have neither entered politics nor will we leave with Berisha’s laws

Press conference of the vice-chairmen of the Socialist Party Servet Pëllumbi and Namik Dokle The leadership of the Socialist Party of Albania organized yesterday at midday a press conference on the current political situation in Albania and the Socialist Party’s positions on it. At the beginning, the deputy chairman of this party, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi, said that the Albanian political situation in recent days has been dominated, and continues to be dominated, by three issues: First, the visit of the President of the Republic of the USA, for which there are two visions, one euphoric, Berisha’s, and the other realistic, that of the opposition. Second, the independence of the courts, which was sacrificed once again solely so that the chairman of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, would remain in prison and to strike at every manifestation of independence in the judiciary. Third, the approval by the leadership of the PD and its parliamentary group of a supposedly anti-genocide draft law, which is a model of anti-law, a model of political revenge, directed against those who think differently, and which divides Albanians precisely at the moment when the problems of the former Yugoslavia are being discussed, with which Kosovo is also linked. We think that such a law does not serve democracy, does not serve Albanians and the Albanian cause, but serves “third parties”. Therefore, we will denounce it in Parliament and will not implement it as long as we have a Constitutional Law on human rights, with which it is incompatible. To express the positions of the PS on these three issues, which are closely linked to one another, we are organizing this Press Conference. We are open to answering your questions. "Under Sali Berisha, Albania remained a police state"

"Berisha is truly so lacking in prestige among Albanians for his autocratic rule that they rejected the constitution he offered them in last year’s referendum. The Berisha party’s defeat in next spring’s parliamentary elections is certain, if there are free elections". Read on page 5
